Spring Pond

2017 Spring Pond

This year’s Spring pond after the first grass trimming. When the pond fills in late Fall or early Winter the Chorus Frogs sing all night long. Gradually the water dissipates as the rains subside. We had 52″ of rain this season and the grass was 4 feet high. I begin to cut the grass as soon as the ground begins to dry, but I always leave the pond vegetation while there is water in the pond. There are still this season’s tadpoles and wildlife visiting the pond. Five Mallard Drakes have been visiting every morning this month. We’ve also had Canadian Geese visiting this year—a new first. One pair hang around for most of the day and are not bothered by our activities.

Nursery Rhyme

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir,
Three bags full;
One for the master,
And one for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.
